The basics for Learning to Read to Learn is really quite simple; all you need to know is what the letters are, where they stand in a word and what they stand for. The first basic assumption for Learning to Read to Learn is “learning to read” or as most people would say, “learning to speak.” It is through this early learning stage in a child’s life, that they start to understand how to read and begin to learn how to compose sentences and construct paragraphs.

In my opinion, the best way to teach kids to begin to have good reading comprehension skills is through phonics instruction. I learned it through my mother and her teaching methods. She made sure I was taught according to the American Heritage Dictionary’s 12th edition. The Rasmussen Certificate Program (RCP) is also extremely beneficial for parents who desire to instill the foundation of a solid foundation in reading to their children. In addition, the RCP incorporates a daily schedule of phonics instruction in a fun, exciting environment.

For example, if you were to hear the word cat, you might associate the word with the sound of a cat. Students build vocabulary skills, while at the same time improving comprehension skills. The RCP also focuses on the development of receptive vocabulary skills. This is extremely helpful in vocabulary building. Students gain a strong foundation in vocabulary at the foundation level of the program. They will also be better prepared to deal with reading comprehension questions. In the RCP, you will be taught how to: recognize and spell the different letter sounds, identify and match pictures and images with words; solve problems by matching similar letters with similar pictures; and understand sentences that contain multi-word words or phrases.
Learning to read is much easier with the help of phonemic awareness. You can strengthen your reading skills by increasing your awareness of the sounds that are associated with the printable letters. You can also reinforce your learning by using the printable letters in your daily activities. You can use flashcards, stickers and cards to reinforce your learning.
